Hello!
I am Tini and I love to knit.
I am the brains and hands behind Knits & Naps. My mom teached me how to knit when I was around 10. I still remember how I finished my first scarf in tears (perfectionist as I am), but since then I've been hooked. Even young, I Ioved to take my knitting everywhere with me - to the parties, to the cinema. And it hasn't gotten better with age, especially after I had my two beautiful daughters. But there is only that much sweaters two small girls can wear...So when the girls got a bit older I started to think about working again. I was thinking if there would be one thing I would have to do every day until the end of my life then what would it be - and the answer was not hard to find - it's knitting and all other sorts of handicraft (crochet, macrame, etc). So this is when Knits & Naps was born :)
Knitting is a beautiful, but slow form of handicraft. Knitting a sweater with needles can take days, weeks, months. It's the real(ly) slow fashion :) But with the help of my new friend, a domestic knitting machine, I can speed up parts of the knitting process and can now share my love with you!
I want to bring to you knits that are at the same time functional and fashionable. Being Estonian, my style is influenced my the minimalism, organisation and calmness of the nordic life-style, to which I hope to add lots of bright colours.
All the yarns I use are natural - merino wool or cotton. Synthetic materials can be warm and fuzzy, but they don't let your body breathe. You can very easily overheat in them. And the cherry on the top - I found merino wool that can be washed in the machine (a small happy-dance here).
So there I was, happy knitting woollen sweaters in the autumn and winter, but what to do when it gets warm outside and a cozy sweater is the last thing on your mind? This is when I delved into the world of crochet handbags and macrame. This is a love story in making, I'm learning and discovering something new with every piece I make!
And why "Knits & Naps"? Because my husband and daughters always laugh that at home they only see me either knitting or napping. My two loves. So it seemed very fitting :)
